Residency Training Publication Requirement
To be eligible for Diplomate or Affiliate Member status, Residents must fulfill all credentialing requirements outlined in Appendix 3 of the ABVNU Training and Certifying Manual. These credentials must be documented and submitted in the Resident’s Credentials Packet to the Training and Certifying Committee for consideration of board certification.
One of these key requirements is the Publication Requirement.
Residents must successfully submit and receive acceptance of a scientific manuscript related to nephrology and/or urology in a journal approved by the Committee. The manuscript must be:
Written in English, and
Published in a refereed (peer-reviewed) scientific medical or veterinary medical journal.
A refereed journal is defined as one governed by established editorial policies and procedures, with content reviewed by at least one recognized authority in the subject area.
Important: Due to variability in editorial quality and review processes, all journals must be approved by the Training and Certifying Committee in advance—separately from the assessment of manuscript content or acceptability.
The list of approved journals—known as the Acceptable Journal List—is reviewed and updated annually to reflect changes in journal availability, editorial processes, board membership, and peer review standards. See the current Acceptable Journal List below.
